12 weeks pregnant trying to get a headstart on baby registry.?

im doing unisex colors so no it does not matter that i do not know the sex yet.

this is my first baby and i have a list of what i "need" for the baby, but some of it seems pointless and more of like a must have for baby.

what are the most important things i should register for?

i already have registered....

monitor , travel mirror , burp cloths , diapers , bottles , bottle sterilizer , bottle brushes , pacifiers , mittens , rattles , teethers , first aid and grooming kits , vaporizor , diaper pail , tub , hooded towels , wash , shampoo , lotion , diaper rash ointment , baby wipes , wipe warmer , travel system , jumper , bouncer , positioner , high chair , crib/portable crib , toys , socks , onsies , shoes.

what am i missing , or do u suggest that any of these items are not necessary?

Hi! I am 12 weeks too. I just wanted to add two things to your list...A boppy pillow, I hear its a must have, even if you are not breastfeeding. Also, depending on the sleeping arrangements you are planning on, a bassinet is great for the 1st few months....(right next to your bed) Of course they are only good until the baby can roll over but it will make the waking up in the middle of the night a little easier because you don't have to go far! If you know anyone expecting, they only need them for a short time so someone may have one you can have! Right when I told everyone I was pregnant, I was given two! lol

Oh ya, and receiving blankets, there cheap and extremely useful!

Good luck and if I think of anything else, I will let you know!
Reply:The main things you will need are vests, all in one suits, diapers (loads), creams, wash cloths, lots of bibs, blankets, bottles, formular (if not breast feeding), changing mat, diaper bag and monitors. The main thing i use and still use one year on is my "baby box", i keep it at home and stock it up on diapers, cream, powder, baby wipes, cotton buds, cotton wool, diaper sacks or whatever i use and i keep it with the changing mat. Sounds like you are pretty prepared all ready though! Best wishes and congrats! :-)
Reply:You won't need a wipe warmer, they'll just dry out your wipes. I wouldn't spend the money on shoes either because they grow out of them so fast. I also wouldn't register for the little stuff like shampoo, lotion %26amp; diaper rash cream and jsut register for the "big" stuff or register for everything theme-wise (i.e. winnie the pooh) I wouldn't register though until later, I don't know when regisitries expire. If you plan on knowing the sex, then wait until then to register so you can go with a "boy" theme or "girl" theme.

Also, don't forget about a car seat, stroller %26amp; maybe a swing.
Reply:If you are not planning on breastfeeding then yes go for bottles, sterilizer etc, otherwise forget them.

Don't bother with shoes (they fall off as bub has no heel), wipe warmer (dries them out), vaporizer (it will only make bedroom walls wet, if they get a cold or are stuffy put them in the bathroom with you in a bouncer/rocker while you have a shower).

I found hooded towels were not very thick and a normal size towel has enough length to fold from your chest down and up the back of bub with room to go over head.

I don't have but would love a rocker glider chair and footstool (both chair and footstool glide back and forth, great for feeding/settling bub and just relaxing for you) like we have in hospital.

Each time you shop buy a little extra when on special eg: wipes (can never have too many), lotion (great for massages), breast and sanitary pads, soap, dummies, soaker (napisan), singlets in size 000 (mine swam in 00000 clothes but singlet sizes are really only longer not much wider) etc.

All the little things that arent that expensive by themselves but that add up when done all at once. That way the registery is for more expensive items that can break a budget

I would also go for 2 pails and about 2 dozen nappies if you plan to use cloth otherwise 1 pail is enough (ask at local bakeries or supermarkets if they have any empty pails, usually give them away).

If you can find plastics (they go over nappy and hold nappy on baby like knickers) with velcro tabs like a disposable nappy they are great and make changing bots easy ( get about 6 of these). Also when buying wraps to swaddle baby they need to be over 100cm each way if you want to use them for sometime or else bub gets to big too fast.

Bassinettes are great my 1st 2 kids used theirs for 6 months each hoping currrent 1 does too (I'm 34 weeks and usually go at 37 weeks).

good luck
