Baby layers...?

I am 26 wks %26amp; 6 days pregnant with my first baby (it's a boy =]). My due date is February 7, 2008 so he'll be a winter baby. We've already bought lots of socks/booties, onsies, receiving blankets, %26amp; a cute snowsuit lol. Anyway I want him to be as warm as possible for whenever I decide to take him out for a doctor's appointment or whatever. I'm thinking diaper, then a onsie, loose socks, an outfit (shirt/pants), hat, mittens, and snow suit. Does that sound warm enough? Should I try to wrap a small blanket before I put the snowsuit on or afterwards? Should he wear shoes also before I put on his snowsuit? Thank you!

Baby layers...?
Dress your baby the same way you are comfortable. Many people tend to over dress their children, and the children end up crying, sweating and turning red due to being too hot.

Shoes will not be necessary under the snowsuit. In fact if he has a hat on, do not use the snowsuit hat, unless it's especially cold and blustery outside. If the trip to the doctor's or any place else is far, remember to loosen up some of the hot clothes in the warm automobile.

Try to think about how you would feel bundled under all of those clothes and blankets, and go by your instincts.

Congratulations! I wish you all the best! I live in Michigan, so I understand you being concerned about cold weather. We sometimes get terrible Winters.
Reply:i wouldnt wrap a blanket befoe puting the snow suit you dont want to over do it either. my baby was born in Nov. and i only used a warm cover all and sometimes i would put on two of them and socks and a beanie that was good enough and i started going back to work in Jan. so i took her out early mornings adn she was good with that amount of clothes you dont have to over do it like i said before b/c then theyll be so used to being so coverd up

just make sure you use thick warm blankets like i did my baby loves those thick small blankets till this day and she is a year already
Reply:An outfit and snowsuit should be plenty. Most importantly, cover his little face with a loose blanket outside, so he doesn't have to breath the cold air. I was told to feel a babies back, if its hot and sweaty you are bundling them up to much. Good Luck and Congrats.
Reply:Yeah u would wrap him in a baby blanket over the snow suit . Shoes are optional like if they are matching and mummy likes i than he should wear them.
Reply:Everything I read, and the advise my pediatrician gave me, is that you should dress your child in the same amount of clothing that you would wear. Newborns produce a lot of body heat, so you don't want to layer them too much. I wouldn't do shoes, if you already have socks and then the snowsuit. A blanket may be too much for when you are in the car, but you can bring one with you to drape over the car seat/carrier when you are walking him outside.
