So how much is too much for my 11 month olds shoes?

I bought tons of shoes for him while I was pregnant in sizes 0-6 months.I rarely put them on him because it seemed that he was uncomfortable and he wore sleepers most of the time since it was winter months. Now that he is 11 months I am having a hard time getting him to wear shoes.I went to a large name brand baby store a few weeks ago and had him fitted. The girl put him in a 2.5 Nike(my son weighs 25 pounds and is 32 inches tall, he is a big man)I thought she knew what she was doing, and they looked fine so I bought them and everytime I put them on him he screams! So again we aren't wearing shoes.Today when I picked him up from daycare they informed me that he needed to start wearing shoes to protect his feet, I agreed (I love his daycare)I went to Stride Rite, he was measured in a 5.5 Extra Wide.I was aggravated. She put the only shoe that came in that size:)on him and he was fine!!But they cost 55.00 and she said he would get about 2-3 months out of them.Doesn't that seem expensive?

So how much is too much for my 11 month olds shoes?
Stride Rite costs a fortune! As much as I hate to admit it, I've found brand name shoes are more comfortable for my son and last FAR longer. So, now I skip Payless Shoe Source %26amp; Target shoes (although I buy them for myself :-)

Mervyn's seems to have the best prices on brand name shoes and their own brand is decent, too. I find it runs about $15-25 for a pair of sneakers. I don't know if regular shoes will accomodate your son's wide feet, but I'd have them remeasured, just to be sure.
Reply:yes but it will be worth it, i would take the other ones back along with the ones he can wear now and talk to a manager and stress to them the importance of little children having shoes that fit correctly, that is a huge gap in sizes that woman should find another career
Reply:Stride Rite are great shoes but they are very spendy. I find them for my girls on EBay. They wil still run you about $25 for a nice pair but that's better then $55.

Also try the soft soled shoes like Robeez and the off brands. I believe even Target carries a type like that now.
Reply:I don't think kids need shoes until they can walk. @_@ that's just my opinion.

anything over $20 is way too much for tiny shoes that may only be worn a dozen times in the 3 months you'll have them.
Reply:very much so try some of the second hand stores first and then also look at some of the department stores for the same size can u really afford $55 every few months?!
Reply:THAT IS TOO MUCH!!! I think you should go to wal-mart and buy him a pair of shoes for 10 bucks.because babies don't stay babies 4 ever.so no need to spend all that money on one pair of shoes when he's gonna grow right out of them in the next 2 months...smile
Reply:I would be wary to spend $55 dollars on a pair of shoes he can only wear for a few months.

I would suggest Robeez - they have soft soles and are really stretchy and comfy. They come by age ranges (6-12 mo., 12-18 mo. etc.) I bought two pair for my son on ebay and got them for almost half the price they are in the stores.

If you are really stuck on buying stride rite you might check other places to see if you can find them cheaper. I think they have them at JC Penny and you could also check ebay.

Good luck!

BTW - is he walking yet? If not, he probably doesn't NEED shoes.
Reply:I think it is too much for a baby, since he will grow out of them quickly.
Reply:wow...at that age my son wore Robeez or Bobux type of shoes. We got his shoes from www.pedoodles.com. They're soft like Robeez but with a slightly more rugged bottom so he could walk outside in them too. And they're cheaper than robeez at about $25 per pair (well...that was 3 years ago..not sure what the prices are now).

I totally recommend pedoodles or robeez for babies around 1 year of age.

Their feet grow so fast..no need to spend huge amounts of $$.
Reply:Seems a little spendy, but for his first pair that actually fits, I think you don't have much of a choice. Now that you have those ones to get by, and you know what size he wears, search the internet for his size (ie. ebay). I know you can get the right size cheaper!

I looked, and found at least 15 pairs (including ebay store sellers) of stride rite 5.5w. Search "shoes 5.5 wide" and click on infant/toddler. Many were only $15 including shipping. Maybe you could take back the $55 ones, and get him 2 pairs for even less! Hope that helps!
Reply:As someone with a 15 month old in 6.5 extra wides I understand your pain. We also had to go to Stride Rite for shoes because I couldn't find any anywhere else to fit his fat little feet.

Although shoes are not necessary when kids are inside it's always good to protect their feet when out. I spend 40$ on his shoes from Stride Rite and he really likes his shoes and walks really well in them...he doesn't want to take them off most days.

I guess it just depends if you can find shoes that fit him cheaper, with extra wide feet it's pretty tough....good luck.
Reply:My daughter wears a wide shoe and all of her shoes have to come from stride rite. see about joining their mailing list to be made aware of sales. JC Penney also carries stride rite. watch for sales and buy a bigger size when they have a crazy clearance sale. Also addidas are naturally wide.
Reply:Ok, please read this all the way through. First off, if at all possible, do not put your child in shoes. It's a fact that the foot of a baby is not fully developed until they are several years old. Their feet are extremely pliable....if you stick them in rigid shoes, the feet will grow improperly. That affects them in many different ways, none of which are good.

If you MUST put shoes on the child, buy Robeez. They are soft soled moccasin type shoes and do not affect how the child's foot develops. Believe me, shoes are bad for children. My daughter is extremely athletic and almost never wears shoes. She was walking early and often, mostly barefoot.

Oh yea, one last thing.....watch your child try to walk with shoes. I guarantee you he/she will fall twice as much trying to walk with shoes on.
Reply:No, if they are the ones that fit him and doesn't make him cry I would get them. Especially if you need them for daycare I would get them. It would be worth it.
Reply:I paid like 80 dollars for a pair of Jordans for my new born just for pictures! thats a lot of money! lol...
