When is the best time to stop using soft soled shoes for babies/toddlers? I know they are beneficial because it can take until toddlers are 3 to fully learn how to walk and because their feet grow so fast, but when does it start to cause more problems? Any ideas?
How long to use soft soled shoes?
it never causes a problem. hard soled shoes are bad for feet and cause all sorts of foot problems. Stick to the soft soles until his feet are too big for any you can find. the best way for a child to develop healthy feet is to allow them to be barefoot as much as possible. In my house shoes are for school or shopping only, then its bare feet or socks all day.
Reply:I never used soft soled shoes. Our baby was walking at 9 months of age and unless we were going somewhere, she was barefoot. It helped with her balance, with coordination, and with stability to just have her feet. A friend gave us hand-me-down soft soled shoes and I never used them past the first time, our baby toppled more often in them.
I am glad I didn%26#039;t buy them myself because it would have been a waste of money.
My vote: skip the soft soled shoes and go barefoot.
Good luck!
Reply:The general advice is to keep babies bare foot for as long as possible. When they begin to cruise or walk out of the house then they need very soft soled shoes or %26quot;cruisers%26quot;. When they have taken around 20 steps independantly they are ready for some proper first shoes.
Hope that helps.
Reply:I used them on my baby from newborn until she was about 16 months. So she walked in them for a bout 4 months. I would have let her wear them longer, maybe until two. I stopped because the weather got cold and the ground was too cold to have her walking in just the soft soled shoes.
