Why is it better for babies to go without shoes when they are learning to walk?

Does anyone know medically why its better for babies to go barefoot when they are learning to walk?

Why is it better for babies to go without shoes when they are learning to walk?
In decades past, many pediatricians encouraged parents to keep shoes on their infant%26#039;s feet. They believed that the child would not learn to walk correctly without the aid of good, supportive baby shoes. Today, pediatricians now recommend letting your baby go barefoot as much as possible.

When your baby is just an infant, the only reason to place shoes on his feet is for appearance or for warmth. Obviously, you don%26#039;t want to place shoes that are too small on his feet, but other than that, there really isn%26#039;t any guideline you should follow since these shows really don%26#039;t serve much of a purpose.

Once your child begins walking, you should still try to keep her barefoot as much as possible. By letting your child go barefoot, you are encouraging her foot and leg muscles to strength naturally. While baby%26#039;s walk may look funny to you, his waddle is normal and natural.

The only reason you should place baby shoes on your child%26#039;s feet is to protect them from injury, such as rocks; hard, rough surfaces; and sticker-laden yards; or from the cold or wet ground. Other than that, your child is much better off barefoot

Reply:it%26#039;s more natural for them..they are used to having just thier bare feet...it helps them keep balance better
Reply:i%26#039;ve done some reading on this. when babies are small and learning to walk, the bones in their feet are still forming, and are very supple. one author wrote that they have the consistency of jelly.

putting tight fitting shoes on the baby%26#039;s feet could hamper the proper development of the bones---therefore, its best to leave them barefoot as much as possible so the bones in the feet will develop normally.

to see some extreme effects of tight things on a baby%26#039;s foot, google %26quot;foot binding%26quot;, this practice used to be done in China---and its pretty gross. although at the time feet that had been bound were considered a thing of beauty. go figure.
Reply:They learn to walk better barefooted because they learn how their foot feels on the different surfaces and learn better how to balance themselves.%26#039;
