Does babies need walking shoes in order to start walking?

My children did not walk until I went out and purchased walking shoes for them. My daughter in law showed me a book today indicating babies are better off not wearing shoes. I purchased walking shoes for my almost 13 month old grandson to start walking since he isn%26#039;t walking yet.

Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Does babies need walking shoes in order to start walking?
Actually its best a baby not have shoes on when they start to walk. And the reason behind this is most babies curl their toes for balance a child doesnt need %26quot;walking shoes%26quot; until they are up and walking around outside of the house. And even then just a pair of socks will do if its in a clean grassy area. Dr%26#039;s will even tell you not to put shoes on a babies feet they are better off without them when they first start to walk.
Reply:My daughter was walking for a couple of months before she got shoes.
Reply:I have read the same thing in several places - babies don%26#039;t need shoes until they start walking outside. Their feet develop better without them. My son is almost nine months old and is almost starting to walk and hasn%26#039;t worn shoes a day in his life.
Reply:no i have not heard of this... but every kid is different. some start walking with help of play strollers... or you helping them walk by holding both their hands. or when they get the strength by crawling and curiosity to start on their on holding onto stuff...
Reply:its better for them to be barefoot...it corrects any abnormalities naturally before they start such as being pigeon toed etc... To each their own!

With the little one not walking yet is he crawling and cruising? Some children dont walk til nearly a yr and a half but should be cruising by then...might be something to bring up to the Dr.
Reply:Babies all develop differently, and some do not start walking until almost 2. My niece was this way and we were concerned for a while, but now she%26#039;s a bouncy little cheerleader! Walking shoes are not necessary for babies because most professionals think it%26#039;s best for them to walk on their own feet to get used to balancing and gripping themselves. When you do decide on shoes, then they do not need to have thick soles and shouldn%26#039;t be heavy either, as that can make walking more difficult. Give your grandson time and I%26#039;m sure he%26#039;ll start walking real soon. Good luck!
Reply:They used to tell parents to put shoes on their kids that were learning to walk. Now, however, we realize that children will learn to walk better if they can roll their foot naturally. To protect their little feet, I have put my daughter in Robeez. They%26#039;re really cute and soft and let her travel normally. Pedipeds are similar. Both have websites. If the price freaks you out Target has similar shoes for a lot less but the selection is limited.
Reply:All 3 of my kids learned to walk and then got shoes. So ... nope. They don%26#039;t need shoes to learn to walk in and it is said that it is better for them to learn to walk without them.
Reply:I also struggle w/ this question-- my baby is 12 months.

You will hear different advice from different people.

I bought a pair of hard walking shoes %26amp; a few pairs of regular shoes (not the hard shoes)---- my son wears both. I also let him walk barefoot @ home. Therefore, he gets to experience it all:)

I notice that the walking shoes help my son balance very well. In fact, @ 11 months he was walking %26amp; running.

I%26#039;ve also heard that if your baby is having foot problems, then he/she definitely needs walking shoes.

The %26quot;experts%26quot; are constantly changing what%26#039;s best %26amp; what%26#039;s not best-- so no one really knows what%26#039;s best.
Reply:For a baby learning to walk, shoes should really only be worn outside and that%26#039;s just for protection. Around the house its best to let them go barefoot.
Reply:yes shoes help keep the foot straight because they are just learning. how many times have we went to start walking and have are ankle twist or something like that, baby bones are small and need help to form the right way but if the child has hip or feet problems his doctor should know best
Reply:no, but your picture is f%26#039;d up
Reply:No shoes is better. At least that%26#039;s what my pediatrician always told me.
Reply:my mom remembers%26quot;walking%26quot; shoes too! they do not recomend that any more-it is no soft shoes or no shoes is best for babies now.
Reply:Walking shoes? What are those?

My son wears soft-soled leather shoes and hes been walking for some time now.

Its best for their feet development to learn barefooted or with soft-soles... the hard soles should ait as long as possible.
Reply:No shoes is the best for learning to walk. But if you feel more comfortable with them wearing shoes, you should get some soft soled shoes like Robeez for them.
Reply:My son is now 11 months and just started walking and I didn%26#039;t buy any walking shoes. I think he walks better with no shoes.
Reply:No, people have been walking bare foot since the beginning of time.
