i heard so many people say they dont pit shoes on babies that dont walk yet b/c it affects their walking, is it true? i put shoes on my 6 month old almost every day. but i dont understand if they make shoes that small for babies to wear way are they bad. i mean they are soft and not heavy
Is it that bad for babies to wear shoes before walking?
people used to tell me that all the time...they can wear shoes...ur baby will be fine
Reply:Soft soled shoes are not bad. But the toes are intended to grip, teh feet to curve and bend, with hard soled shoes this can nto happen. The recomendation now is to not put hard soled shoes on a baby until they are walkign enough that they do so outside. Mommy to 2 kids who both walked well before 9 months and NEVER wore shoes to learn.
Reply:Not bad....but I think the consesus is that baby will walk sooner without REAL shoes on his feet. Crib shoes and soft-soled shoes are fine but the shoes with the heavy rubber bottoms could deter Jr. from taking those first steps!!
So....you are probably fine!!
Reply:No, it%26#039;s not bad. Babies have been wearing shoes for years.
However, I would allow the baby to walk around the house sometimes w/o shoes-- it%26#039;s %26quot;supposedly%26quot; good for the arches.
Reply:there is nothing wrong with it!! i put shoes on my baby since she was about a month old and she is 10 1/2 months old now and she is starting to walk just fine!!
Reply:I really don%26#039;t think it affects them either way. Kids learned to walk for thousands of years without shoes and there has been no hard research done on the benefits either way. They are purely to be cute or protect feet from cold weather.
Reply:nah it should be fine if you can find a cheap but well made pair!
remember there feet will be a differnt size every month
Reply:Babies need to learn balance without shoes first. It is ok to wear shoes, but when the baby is working on standing and walking, take the shoes off.
Reply:Of course they make shoes for babies this size, they want to make money! The Pediatricians and nurses at the clinic we used all said to leave my daughter barefoot as long as she was inside, even when she started walking. They all said the only time shoes are necessary are when babies/children go outside. Feet need to develop naturally, just like they did before shoes were invented and everyone went without them.
Reply:Everything I have read says to let them learn to walk with no shoes on. It helps them to be able to balance better. Shoes should be used to protect their feet when they are outside or once they have learned to walk well. I always just had my kids in socks with those non-slide things on the bottom when we were in the house.
Good luck! and get ready to baby proof the house if you haven%26#039;t already!
Reply:When my kids were growing up...our doctor told us to put shoes on them to help them with walking. Now, we have a 9 1/2 month old foster child, who is about ready to walk and his pediatrician said...let him learn to walk barefooted...she said it doesn%26#039;t harm their feet...shoes at this point are for cosmetic reasons only.
Reply:It will not affect the walking. I put my son on shoes from birth. My pediatrician said it%26#039;s ok.
Reply:Well i guess it could effect if their flat footed or not. Oh by the way do i use hot water with that?
Reply:it is fine i have three kids and even with my first one i remember sending her to daycare when she was about 3 months old with lil shoes on her feet and all my kids walk fine and im sure yours will too
Reply:It%26#039;s not going to ruin your baby or your baby%26#039;s feet. You shouldn%26#039;t have your baby in shoes every waking minute, but putting them on her won%26#039;t be all bad. They should have plenty of bare feet time so they can get used to the natural arches in their feet while they walk, but shoes aren%26#039;t bad.
Reply:if it was only every now and then than it wouldnt be such a problem but wearing shoes every day can stuff their ankles and cause them to have trouble walking
Reply:Well here are the reasons for not putting shoes on. You decide. It%26#039;s not going to %26quot;harm%26quot; him, it just isn%26#039;t helping.
Learning to walk, when he starts pulling up, will be easier if he can feel the surface under his feet and learn to adjust for balance (balancing on carpet is very different from balancing on concrete/hardwood/linoleum) How they use their feet and adjust to the surface will be different.
Hard bottomed shoes (and even some soft ones) restrict foot/toe movement. You see babies flex those muscles all day long and in their sleep. They are constantly flexing and curling those toes! This strengthens the muscles which makes walking easier.
