My son is 4 months old and I have never taken him out in pajamas .. I always get him fully dressed. (shirt, shorts/pants, socks, shoes) ... I have fully dressed him since I brought him home from the hospital.
(when he was very tiny, we bought him Nike Air Jordan booties .. they were booties but looked like little tennis shoes, then around 1 month old, he started wearing real baby shoes)
But I%26#039;ve noticed that some women take their babies out in pajamas (footed pajamas) .. is this common for people to do that?
My son sleeps in footed pajamas .. but I would never take him in public like that.
(nothing against mothers who choose to do that) .. but I%26#039;m just wondering what other peoples view is on this.
Do you dress your baby before you take them in public?
Or do you just take them out in pajamas?
How many of you take your baby out in public dressed in pajamas?
I took my son out the other day to pick his father up, but we were not getting out of the car.
When he goes out to the store or to see family or the daycare and what not, I dress him. In the summer I just had a onsie and when we entered the cold supermarket, I would put socks and cover his legs with a light blanket. As the weather got a little cooler, I just used socks, no shoes, cause they seems bulky and uncomfortable for him, and he doesn%26#039;t walk yet anyways. Now that it is getting really cold, I do put some soft shoes on, but once we get to daycare, I put them in his diaper bag. (The other children seem to like to take them off. Once he starts to walk, I will keep them on. I was only using slippers, but then his grandma got him some good shoes. Anyways, I dress him in clothes and not jammies, but if it is the weekend and we don%26#039;t go anywhere, like today, then he just wears pj%26#039;s. I don;t really like to see the other children at daycare with pj%26#039;s on, to me it makes it seem like their mother was rushing and didn%26#039;t bother with dressing them. However, when he was only 2 months and younger, I had this outfit that had a onsie and pants that were footed and since he just laid I did take him in that.
If I am just going to pick up a prescription and not get out of the car, I may just not dress him fully, you know?
I hope this helps.
***EDIT*** P.S. I think it is ridiculous when parents hardly ever dress their babies. I think what you do is absolutely cute and I do the same, if it is on sale! Those other people are the ones who are crazy, not us!
Reply:theres nothing wrong w taking him out in p.j s.he isnt even aware of what it is that hes wearing yet.oh and also dont let him wear shoes alot.they can affect how he walks and how his feet form,
Reply:Wow, this question started out a bit weird, and disintegrated into total nuttiness.
Nike Air Jordan booties are about the chav-iest thing I can think of for a baby.
There is a line between dressing a baby nicely, in something other than a sleeper, and dressing a baby %26quot;nicely,%26quot; in something other than comfortable clothing well suited to the baby%26#039;s age and the weather.
Shoes, trousers, etcetera, are rarely made to be comfortable for a newborn.
There is something a bit odd about a baby too fully %26#039;fully dressed.%26#039; They are not dolls.
That said, I saw a baby pushing a year old in a restaurant in a sort of playsuit thing with no shoes or socks, and it looked very odd. I am all for making it clear that your baby is a valued member of your family.
However. I am in Canada, and it is pushing the time where babies will be in snowsuits.
I do not wear a one-piece snowsuit, nor would it be appropriate for me to do so.
But it would not be appropriate for a baby to wear a short wool/cashmere coat, either. One has to draw certain lines when it comes to dressing babies up to look like miniature adults. I think a classic bonnet is a lot nicer than chav booties...
Reply:I will take my daughter out in footed pajamas but they are more dressier than regular fleece pajamas. I live in the midwest so it is colder here than in CA. She will be 6 months tomorrow. I don%26#039;t want her to be cold. I will not take her out in just a diaper, that bothers me.
Reply:Depends on where were going. If we are going to the mall or going to be out for a while yes I do get her dressed. If we are just going to the grocery store then I will just keep her in her pajamas.
Reply:It depends on the circumstances and where we are going. If I just have to go get milk or something then yes I will leave him in pajamas. A lot of people here do that. If we are going somewhere and will be out for a while then I will get him all dressed up.
Reply:If we%26#039;re going out to dinner or some place you don%26#039;t normally run errands i get my baby all dressed to shoes. But if I%26#039;m just running around going to walmart or picking up my daughter from school my baby is in footed sleepers. For example, right now we are waiting to go out to dinner and she has tights, a dress, and cute black mary janes on. well she%26#039;s just kicked them off 3 times in the last minute. So probably no shoes today.
Reply:i take mine dressed in pajamas but the differance is its not what he slept in. my poor son has size 3 feet (hes only 3 months!) and they are skinny as all get out so i cannot keep socks or shoes on him to save my life (well cant keep em on short of duct tape) so i prefer to put him in either a footed outfit or a cute footed sleeper. but he NEVER goes out in anything he wore to bed
Reply:I do this sometimes in the mornings when it is cold and I take my older two to school. Alot of the other mom do it also. But otherwise I dress him, not as fancy as you. He only wears shoe Bobux every once in a while, and really doesn%26#039;t wear socks that much either. His feet sweat something terrible.
Reply:Normally I will dress him up in his jeans/khakis and t-shirt/sweater over the onesie and socks. However now it is getting colder out so sometimes if we are out walking I have to put a bunting bag on him for warmth so I doubt I will worry so much about what he is wearing underneath as long as it is warm. Particularly if we are not stopping anywhere where I%26#039;ll be taking the outer layer off.
I am currently stocking up on jumpers and sweatshirts with hoods because my boy will absolutely not wear a hat (summer baby) but he will tolerate hoodies. Shoes? I can hardly get socks to fit him so will probably look into some kind of leggings that grip up around the thigh so he can%26#039;t pull them off but they don%26#039;t interfere with diaper changes and look like socks.
During the summer though, I always dressed him since he didn%26#039;t always need much more than a onesie, socks and pants at night sometimes. However we get really cold winters so while I am looking for jumpers, his heavy sleepers will work as well. I%26#039;d rather have my guy comfortable and healthy than stylish with a runny nose and fever.
Reply:Wow, I thought your answer on vaccinations was astounding. Your insight on appropriate infant footwear has solved my Footies vs. Air Jordans dilemma.
Your son is a human being, not a barometer of how fashionable you are.
Reply:I always dress my siblings when they are going out no matter where there going.....they are both 1 years old and sooooo adorable but the answer to your question is that%26#039;s perfectly normal.
Reply:If I am in a hurry, I will take her out in pajamas. I do not see anything wrong with it. I mean I live in New York. It is cold now. She has on a jacket so noone can tell what she is wearing. And even more so with her being in her carrier.
Reply:I love to dress my daughter in adorable little outfits all the way down to socks and shoes. (She has these socks that look like Mary Jane shoes. It%26#039;s adorable) However, I also have some of Carter%26#039;s Sleep n%26#039; Plays. (They%26#039;re little sleepers--with feet--that are cute enough to play in.) They are so convenient. So I guess my answer is yes, sometimes I take my daughter out in public in her PJ%26#039;s. But where I live, it%26#039;s cold now, and you often see babies in their pajamas.
Reply:I sometimes take my son out in pajamas. Who really cares if we%26#039;re just going to Target and he%26#039;ll be in his carseat the whole time. When we go to the doctors I get him dressed. It%26#039;s too much of a hassle though because he spits up a lot and goes through at least 4 or 5 outfits a day.
Reply:In general I do not do this but now I have 2 children under 2 years of age and look after them alone most days. If I%26#039;m under pressure to get out fast I will keep the newborn in pj%26#039;s for a quick trip out.
I live in a cooler area than you and sometimes it seems like a good idea to leave the PJ%26#039;s on because the are so warm and super snuggly on cold days. There are many reasons people may choose to take their child out in %26quot;PJ%26#039;s%26quot; that do not include being lazy.
Reply:I think women that take their kids out in the pajamas are just lazy or in rush. I%26#039;ve never done that, because then I would not have the chance to put on him all the cute clothes I buy for him!
Reply:I think it is natural to want to show off your baby and dress them from head to toe. When we go out I get my son dressed up in clothes that I think will make both of us feel good. Sometimes, that may be jammie jams, but only rarely.
Reply:Are you Brittney spears? babies need to be comfy not fabolous
Reply:I used to take my son out in his PJs all the time! He lived in comfy PJs. He was also very chunky and didn%26#039;t fit into much else... but still... what%26#039;s the big deal?!
Honestly, no one cares that your baby is wearing Nike Air Jordans but you. I think THAT%26#039;S a little ridiculous, personally.
Reply:i bring my baby out in his pj%26#039;s sometimes it depends on the weather. his pajamas are warmer than any outfit even with pants socks jacket etc.. my babies pajamas are warm, thick and fuzzy and even have a hood and mittens attached. that is what he is most comfterable in so on relly cold days i put him in them, whats wrong with that?
Reply:He%26#039;s a baby! Who cares what her wears? I think it is kind of silly to completely dress up a baby just to go out when they are all floppy and usually in their carseats so who can see the outfit anyway. The baby certainly doesn%26#039;t give a hoot and will probably be more comfortable in pjs anyway.
I took both my kids out in footed pajamas all the time - but I didn%26#039;t see them as just pajamas they are also play outfits.
It does not surprise me that you are from West Hollywood, you seem to have a very superficial view of things. Dressing your baby up does NOT make you a better mother, just more obsessively image conscious.
Reply:I%26#039;ve done so, depends on the circumstances. Nothing wrong with that. As for footed sleepers... you put shoes on them if they are walking. If not, then it%26#039;s okay.
One night my husband was working late, and it was our wedding anniversary. My kids and I met him for a late dinner, they were in their pj%26#039;s at age 8 and 5. Had a blast.
As babies, they were out in pj%26#039;s many times... again, like I said, depends on the circumstances. My daughter was recently very ill, had a temp of 103. I took her to the ped in pj%26#039;s. No reason to dress her up for that.
I%26#039;m turned off by the person who stated that moms are lazy or in a rush if they keep their child in their pjs. LOL. Um... she obviously wasn%26#039;t a parent for too long and didn%26#039;t have any ill children to take to the pediatrician with a high temp. If you are going to fuss over your children%26#039;s clothes when they are sick with a fever of 103, then you have your priorities sadly very much out of order.
Reply:Honey, why do you care if people take their babies out in pajamas? That%26#039;s great that you dress up your baby-- but just because you take the time to do that, doesn%26#039;t make you a better mother than someone who doesn%26#039;t. Babies don%26#039;t even care what they are wearing, it doesn%26#039;t matter an ounce to them if they are in PJS or normal clothes. The only thing that matters to them when they are that little is if they are loved and taken care of.
Honestly, given the choice, I would wear pajamas all the time if I could. They are so much more comfortable than normal clothes! So I%26#039;m sure babies have no objection to wearing them :)
Reply:You sound very wrapped up in the %26quot;West Hollywood%26quot; thing.
You know with giving a crap about what kind of shoes a newborn is wearing and that you are jizzed about living close to b spears.
Real people just don%26#039;t really care about that stuff.
My kid loves going out in his onesies and sometimes we really enjoy dressing him up.
%26quot;Public%26quot; has nothing to do with our decision on what he wears.
Aren%26#039;t you the parent though? Why are you struggling so hard to defend your position? Deep down do you feel that it is wrong and you are just looking for cohesion from someone that thinks the way that you do?
Either way, that little one is yours. Not ours. Do with it as you please as long as it is healthy. The kid will hate you anyway.....lol
